A Few Quilt Tops Done

Several weekends ago I finished these two quilt tops. I like them both. You may be able to see that I used a completely different inner sashing (on the quilt with the blocks set on point) than I had previously considered. Unfortunately, I won't be quilting these in the next month or so. Maybe this summer?

You probably recognize the color-book blocks. I think they originally came from a coloring book? Do you know? I think they are adorable. You can see I used colors on mine instead of embroidery. Quicker and easier! That's always my motto when it comes to finishing one of my own quilts!

Easy Like Sunday Mornin'

I slept until 9:45am. Nine forty-five!! It was glorious. I feel incredible! Sleep. Such a natural thing, yet it doesn't happen naturally for me.

Having a great day. The weather is beautiful. Scotty and the boys are working outside. That means that I got to dip out and do some shopping. It was nice to go alone for a change. I got so much done without the distractions.

In the quiet of the trip home from shopping, I was thinking about that little quilt I am working on without the borders. All your talkin' 'bout piano key borders Friday gave me the envie to make them for this little quilt. Also, I will delve into my scraps!

What do you think about piano key borders? Any other ideas?

Have a Super Sunday!
Vanessa

Next on the agenda:
1) Baste, quilt and bind the "Lavender" sashed quilt. Ha!
2) Get started on Cameron's quilt.
3) Make foundation pieces for string quilt. This is for my imaginary Saturdays that I will get to go to Sew Bee It. Hopefully, soon!

Call Me Quick Silver...

...or NOT! I am back. Here is the picture I promised. Must I quilt it? Will need backing and batting to complete so I get to procrastinate at least until then. Lucky me!

I do have another quilt top on the horizon. This one is just for fun. Here are a few prospects for inner borders. I will probably have to buy some border fabric. I think that's what's slowing me down. Having to shop for more fabric. I have plenty of fabric, just not the right one. Not that I don't like buying or looking at fabric..it's the trip to get it. Geez, I'm ridiculous!

I am ordering a few kits from Connecting Threads today. I am in the mood to sew, but I don't want to have to find a pattern. I guess a busy lifestyle and creativity is a difficult marriage.

Au revoir, my friend!

I finished getting the pieced border on today. Boy, I think I did more ripping than sewing. I had so much trouble figuring out what to do with the corners. I wanted to round the corner but the checkerboard design came out uneven. So I thought I would do strips but I didn't like the way it looked. Eventually I figured how to round the corner but not completely. I like it. I have to use a lint roller there is so much strings.

Close up of the bottom corner. See in looks like it is missing a corner 4 patch but if I had put one I would have had two dark colors right next to each other.

Picture of upper left corner. I like the checkerboard look but it was alot of work. I don't think I will do this too often. Now I need to decide on an outer border. Maybe green? What do you think? I'm liking it so far but it looks like a child's quilt not an adult quilt.

Here is what I have so far-quick look away-it may blind you. It is very a flourescent looking blue. It didn't look that bright when I was cutting it and trying it out on the board but it is. I am not redoing it.

I'm not finished sewing the sashing but I wanted to show you so far. The purple on the left is what I'm thinking of using with the 4-patch pieced border. It may be too dark. What do you think?

This is what I worked on today. Some old log cabin blocks I started a long time ago. I have 30 blocks. The blocks measure 6 inches finished. They don't look like regular log cabin blocks because I didn't follow the usual light and dark diagonal design. Which now presents a problem, sort of. I think I want to put sashing because the blocks are small and I want to make at least a lap size out of this. And I will also put some borders on it. I'm thinking of using the left over strips and making a pieced border. Not sure what yet but that will come later. Now I need to decide a color for the sashing. The blocks are very busy and the centers are all the same red fabric. I'm not sure what color would pull all of this together and I know that it is hard to decide with a picture instead of in person but HELP! What would you think? What color would you use? I'm thinking of making the sashing 2 or 2-1/2 inches wide and maybe using the same fabric as the sashing to place my border blocks in as if they were floating in this fabric.

I may make some four patch blocks or piano key or sawtooth. I'm not sure yet but I want to use up all the extra strips.

Here are two close ups of the blocks so you could get a better idea of the fabrics I used. They are very bright and scrappy and busy. I don't think a beige or tan color would look good. It would have to be a bright like the rest of the fabrics just not a busy one. Maybe even a solid or something that comes off as a solid. What do you think?

I'm glad to be done with these blocks. They have been hanging around at least 5 years or more. When I started them I had someone in mind for the quilt and this person is an adult. I still would like to give it to them but it has to be at least lap size.
Til we meet again,

Batiks & The UL Quilt

I found the sashing for Wil's grad quilt. It is a black batik, but looks more blackish-blue. I pointed it out to the lady @ the quilt shop and she said that it was black. I don't know if you can see if from the picture posted. I was more than happy with it as I thought plain black would be boring. This one will be perfect because the quilt is blue & gold. I tried out some browns like I had talked to you about, but they seemed a little too muddy (no pun intended).

You can see that I found some fabric for the inset triangles on the UL quilt. I loved it on the bolt and really love it with the finished squares. I can't wait to work on it, but will probably save it away so I will have something to sew when I got to SBI meetings.
