Yesterday!

15 qts of carrots for the freezer. 5 lbs in fridge for use now. 10 lbs to give away to family. So tired after doing all of this but it felt good to get it done. Now what to do with the VERY LARGE turnips still left in the garden?? Good question!!

Easy Like Sunday Mornin'

I slept until 9:45am. Nine forty-five!! It was glorious. I feel incredible! Sleep. Such a natural thing, yet it doesn't happen naturally for me.

Having a great day. The weather is beautiful. Scotty and the boys are working outside. That means that I got to dip out and do some shopping. It was nice to go alone for a change. I got so much done without the distractions.

In the quiet of the trip home from shopping, I was thinking about that little quilt I am working on without the borders. All your talkin' 'bout piano key borders Friday gave me the envie to make them for this little quilt. Also, I will delve into my scraps!

What do you think about piano key borders? Any other ideas?

Have a Super Sunday!
Vanessa

Next on the agenda:
1) Baste, quilt and bind the "Lavender" sashed quilt. Ha!
2) Get started on Cameron's quilt.
3) Make foundation pieces for string quilt. This is for my imaginary Saturdays that I will get to go to Sew Bee It. Hopefully, soon!

Handmilled Soap

Made soap balls and cakes yesterday. I had some BIG BARS of basic goat's milk soap that I had bought from Pennsylvania years ago. The soap was really hard so April helped me grate it and we added hot water and essential oils to it then squeezed it together to make soap balls and cakes. They need to dry out for a few days then we can use them. We have Peppermint, Citrus (which was a blend of Tangerine and Orange essential oils) and Jasmine (which is our favorite).

Funny thing, the Jasmine smells like honeysuckle. I had a perfume in high school that smelled just like it. Brought back memories of drivers ed and high school days just smelling it!

Call Me Quick Silver...

...or NOT! I am back. Here is the picture I promised. Must I quilt it? Will need backing and batting to complete so I get to procrastinate at least until then. Lucky me!

I do have another quilt top on the horizon. This one is just for fun. Here are a few prospects for inner borders. I will probably have to buy some border fabric. I think that's what's slowing me down. Having to shop for more fabric. I have plenty of fabric, just not the right one. Not that I don't like buying or looking at fabric..it's the trip to get it. Geez, I'm ridiculous!

I am ordering a few kits from Connecting Threads today. I am in the mood to sew, but I don't want to have to find a pattern. I guess a busy lifestyle and creativity is a difficult marriage.

Au revoir, my friend!

Anyone Out There?

Tap! Tap! Tap!
This isn't really a post. This is just a test. Only a test. Thought I lost the password to post. I tried unsuccessfully a few days ago and gave up after I resolved that I couldn't remember the password. I logged on today and gave it one last try. Yep, you guessed it! I am in! Hope I can post again soon. This time I am writing the password down. Promise. Pinky Promise.

Hello, Summertime!

Let's see if I still know how to post. It's been forever!

I am so happy that school break is here. Not that I love the sweltering heat down here in Louisiana, but being away from school for two whole months makes my heart dance. I know, I shouldn't be that excited....but I truly am. I am already working on some projects that need to get done by summer's end. I hope that I can have at least one quilt done by the end of this week. I have several tops complete, 4 to be exact, that need to be quilted. Once I get backing and batting I have no excuse not to get them basted and quilted, right?

Terry, I am hoping to get some visits in with you my dear friend. We always have things to catch up on as our visits aren't as often as we would both like. Hopefully, I will have a quilt to show this week. Hopefully.

I finished getting the pieced border on today. Boy, I think I did more ripping than sewing. I had so much trouble figuring out what to do with the corners. I wanted to round the corner but the checkerboard design came out uneven. So I thought I would do strips but I didn't like the way it looked. Eventually I figured how to round the corner but not completely. I like it. I have to use a lint roller there is so much strings.

Close up of the bottom corner. See in looks like it is missing a corner 4 patch but if I had put one I would have had two dark colors right next to each other.

Picture of upper left corner. I like the checkerboard look but it was alot of work. I don't think I will do this too often. Now I need to decide on an outer border. Maybe green? What do you think? I'm liking it so far but it looks like a child's quilt not an adult quilt.
